ORGANISE AN EVENT

There are a number of things to consider when organising a Night Golf event...

1 Decide on which date the Night Golf tournament is to be held.

2 Will there be a theme? For example Halloween or Comic Relief?

3 What type of tournament?

Shot gun scramble Relaxing and fun, 9 holes takes around 2-3 hours to play.
Day/Night event

Very popular in the summer months. Nine holes are played in the afternoon and nine holes are played in the evening, with cocktails and a barbecue in between - ideal for golfing societies.
Closest to the pin Quick and easy.
Longest drive

A simple cumulative contest adding to total yardage registered by each player using a driver, 5 iron and a 9 iron.
Skins game Any number of holes.
Putting contest Using 2 or 3 of the darkest greens near your club house.

4 How many players should we have?

A successful Tournament should be held with at least 36 players in 4 person teams. The number of players can increase to 72 for a nine hole Tournament. Should your participation level increase beyond that amount, the number of holes played should be increased to accommodate players. Should the number increase significantly, all 18 holes of the golf course can be played. Tournaments are usually played in a Shot-Gun Scramble/Best Ball to speed up play.

5 Agree a start time.

We reccomend starting the game at least 1 hour after sunset.

6 Set the entry fee to include...

The cost of equipment
Drinks on arrival
Refreshments during the tournament
Prizes (We can suggest suitable options, branded or not.)
A meal after the prize giving

7 Register to play?

Four weeks prior to the tournament, put up a poster asking members to register to play.

8 Order the equipment when the event is fully subscribed.

Although we do offer a next day delivery service, please order 2 weeks prior to the tournament. This allows sufficient time to check stock and re-order if necessary. We recommend that you order at least one golf ball per player and one extra per foursome.

9 Collect the entry fee!

10 Safety.

Ensure all competing players are aware that they need to carry a torch for safety purposes when walking the course at night, locating lost balls and marking score cards. GMG can supply Night Golf branded torches and pens.

A few helpful hints before you begin to organise your event

• The most important thing to remember is to make it fun for the competitors and profitable for the club!

• A well organised event with an entry fee between £15 and £30 will help make the evening a success! (Entrance fee dependant on what will be costed into the evening's entertainment in addition to the equipment).

• It’s proven that costing in a drink on arrival and a meal after the prize giving generates greater profits.

On The Day - Setting up the course

• It will take two people approximately 2 hours to set up a nine hole event.

• The 6" light sticks, hole markers and inserts will glow for 8 hours + allowing plenty of time to set up during daylight hours.

• Prepare the balls and tees ready for issuing 1 hour before the tournament is due to start.

• To prepare the balls, bend the mini 1.5" lightsticks to activate and shake well.
Use a tee to push the lightstick in all the way. Center the lightstick in the ball with a tee. The Lightstick can only go in one way.
Apply the same technique with the tees and 1.5" minis.

• When every one has arrived and it is time to make the draw for a 9 hole shot gun scramble. We suggest you take a pack of cards and remove all the cards with a value higher than nine along with the jokers. This will give you 36 cards, 4 of each number. Shuffle and place face down on a table, now invite each player to pick a card. Once all the cards have been chosen you can announce that all aces will play together from the first tee, all twos from the second tee and so on. This effectively splits up the members getting them to mix with people they may not otherwise have known.

• The tournament can begin once all the equipment has been issued and the players are at their tees.

• Fireworks are a great way to start the event!
